Financial literacy plays a pivotal role in driving inclusive growth and sustainable economic development. Recognizing this national priority, the Centre for Financial Literacy (CFL) of the Department of Finance, University of Kelaniya, in collaboration with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), conducted a highly impactful 4-day residential Training of Trainers (ToT) programme on 19th May to 22nd May at Hotel Renuka, Colombo.
Held in line with the Financial Literacy Roadmap 2024-2028 launched by CBSL, this training aimed to equip trainers from CBSL and Chrysalis with the tools and knowledge necessary to deliver practical and impactful financial literacy education.
These training modules were designed and led by a distinguished academic panel under the leadership of Dr. Chathura Liyanage, Director of CFL. The TOT was conducted by Dr. Chathura Liyanage, Prof. Ruwani Fernando, Prof. Madurika Nanayakkara, Ms. Ganga Madhushani, Ms. Nethmi Herath, Ms. Uththara Dissanayake, and Ms. Sandali Sudasinghe, representing the Centre for Financial Literacy, University of Kelaniya.
The training introduced participants to newly developed financial literacy modules tailored to empower women, youth, and MSMEs, aligning with national goals of promoting grassroots-level financial inclusion. These modules were designed to be practical, accessible, and aligned with global best practices in financial education.
Armed with this training, regional officers of CBSL, Chrysalis and lecturers form CFL will now spearhead a series of nationwide financial literacy sessions, directly impacting communities across Sri Lanka and creating ripples of economic empowerment.
